China owns complete industrial chains for surface treatment raw materials, equipment and outsourced coating services. Numerous global brands and component manufacturers source vacuum coating and spray processing from Chinese factories. Clear communication and reasonable factory evaluation help overseas buyers avoid common sourcing pitfalls.
Prepare complete technical specifications before sending RFQ. Vague requirements such as “make vacuum coating” will cause inconsistent quotation standards. You need to provide substrate material, part dimension, 2D/3D drawings, target appearance (gloss, matte, color reference sample), required testing standards, working condition description, annual order volume and sample making timeline. Physical color swatches deliver much higher communication efficiency than pictures only.
Evaluate factory practical capability. For vacuum coating suppliers, check vacuum chamber size & quantity, sputtering or arc evaporation equipment configuration, dust free workshop grade and in house lab testing capacity. For spray processing vendors, verify automatic spraying lines, UV curing or powder spray booth facilities, complete pre treatment workflow and waste gas treatment systems. Small workshops offer very low prices but often lack stable testing capacity and environmental compliance.
Pre production sample confirmation is non negotiable. Both buyer and supplier shall keep signed reference samples. Finish all performance tests on pre samples instead of jumping directly to mass production. Modify process parameters according to sample feedback until all technical indexes are satisfied.
Understand cost composition: processing cost covers fixture cost, surface pre treatment, material consumption, equipment depreciation, labor and QC testing. Complex fixtures, strict testing requirements and small batch orders bring extra charges. Extremely low quotations usually mean hidden quality compromises.
Surface treatment belongs to post processing procedure, so reserve sufficient lead time for coating production. Workpieces delivered to coating factories need proper packaging against scratches and contamination during transit.
