QC Checklist for Coating Outsourcing Work
Stable quality is the biggest challenge of outsourced vacuum coating and spray processing. Even high quality raw materials cannot guarantee qualified outputs without standardized QC procedures. International buyers need clear inspection checkpoints to evaluate supplier capability.
For vacuum coating, incoming workpiece inspection comes first. Oil stains, burrs and surface contamination must be eliminated before chamber loading; minor surface flaws will get amplified after thin film deposition. Core testing items include ASTM D3359 cross cut adhesion test, film thickness measurement, salt spray corrosion test, pencil hardness test and visual inspection for pinholes, fogging and particle spots. Every production batch shall reserve archive samples and record key process parameters for traceability.
For spray processing, surface pre treatment remains the top control point. Incomplete degreasing accounts for most paint peeling failures. Essential QC items cover paint film thickness, adhesion, hardness, salt spray performance, color difference measurement with color meter (ΔE value), orange peel level and solvent resistance. Operators must monitor curing parameters strictly: insufficient UV energy leads to poor chemical resistance; improper baking temperature ruins powder coating quality.
Watch out for hidden supplier risks. Some vendors cut costs by shortening deposition cycles or reducing paint layers. Products may pass initial appearance check yet fail long term aging tests. Decorative grade coating requires dust free workshops; factories without dust control environment face high particle defect rate.
Reliable coating suppliers implement full link QC workflow: incoming inspection → pre process verification → in process sampling → finished product inspection → reference sample storage. Buyers should write acceptance criteria inside purchase contracts, define testing standards and request retained reference samples.
